O, Moon

Though the desert bush land landscape is harsh and dry in the summer months, the sky can never be relinquished of its other worldly beauty. As the sky fades into the night and transforms into a beautiful deep hue of indigo blue - iridescent as a sapphire gemstone refracting light into millions of shattered light particles all around the room, creating a spectrum of dancing reflections, all competing to be in the same spotlight on the stage that is the sapphire's environment - the moon emerges from its graceful presence over some other face of the world to preside it's reign over this face of the earth. The emergence of the crystal clear glowing moon heralds the need for company, in the form of the stars. A single lone star joins the clear sky and takes its place beside the waning gibbous of the moon and there they coexist in all their spangled lustrous glory, two seemingly and deceptively small elements in the vast expanse of the silken gossamer evening sky, greater than what they seem and more influential in our lives than we can comprehend. For the moon controls the tides of the oceans that inhabit the earth, deep and wide pools filled in the salty tears of many years come and past, while the stars glow hot with pulsing energy and life, providing maps for travelers and journey-men throughout the ages, mysterious and full of intrigue as they are, resembling miniature un-linked objects of some celestial connect-the-dots game, where humanity is left with the great task of decoding their meaning, but never reaching a conclusion. But do we need to decode the stars, or the moon, to bring meaning to our lives? Can we be content with the knowledge we have and leave a little of the existing mystique and intrigue to their existence? For the evening sky in the desert is a beautiful thing to behold.

Salut! ♡

I have been oh so busy these holidays drawing, reading, exercising and generally taking a break from the stresses of life. Christmas was a lovely time to spend with the family and eat, drink and be merry! ☯ I was accepted to start my Masters degree next year so that's what I plan to do at this present stage, I'm nervous but also excited as I really want to do postgraduate studies and this degree will definitely be of benefit to my future career.

The 70's is the style era which I am presently most drawn to at the moment. Think plenty of paisley prints, flares, bell-sleeves, long free flowing hair, flower crowns, batik prints, soft focus photography, floppy hats and plenty of daisies. The 1970's was a great time for fashion! The hippy look was still present and disco fever was taking over and then entered the glam rock scene of the late 70's. I loved the hippie movement and wish I could have been present at Woodstock, it would have been an amazing experience.

Here are a few snapshots of things that have related to my life at this present moment. (From L-R, top to bottom):
1. The setting of the sun and the moon rising created such a lovely colour palette in the sky, plus the moon was covered in a thin veil of clouds, which was extra pretty.
2. One of my presents from Christmas - Lola by Marc Jacobs which is quickly becoming one of my favourite scents - and who can resist that bottle?!
3. My new glittery suede shoes which were also a Christmas gift. They're so high (14cm), which is good for me as I am 5"3 and can do with a boost in height!.
4. This is quite a bit too tiny, but it is the beginnings of a mini portrait I'm creating of Lana Del Rey, undoubtedly one of my favourite people right now.
5. I am now up to date with my Sims 3 expansion pack collection with the addition of this little baby, Seasons. I can't help but love the Sims, I have basically been with them since the beginning. ♡
6. Clueless. That is all I need to say.

Hello all! I recently finished a new illustration which I have been meaning to finish for the longest time, but uni has just gotten in the way of everything. But in this one week I have had free from uni, I have managed to accomplish more for myself then the 13-14 weeks of constant stress I've had. I just really needed this week, although it isn't all that long of a time, it is long enough for me to recover and get ready for next week, where I'll be starting my 3 week intensive packaging course.
Anyway, this is the finished illustration.

Seeing as I have had the time, I have also begun another portrait which is of Boudicca, who is one of my la femme heroes. I have been waiting for ages to find the time to actually start this portrait. I think I will not have it finished by the end of the week, but I will definitely finish it during the mid-year break. I become really invested in my illustrations, as I take the time to research the subject matter and become interested in the history and other factors surrounding the topic I've decided to illustrate around. It is just in its first early stages but I hope I will be able to translate the final image I have in my mind onto the paper.

Marina + the Diamonds - Bubblegum Bitch

What we see and what we seem are but a dream, a dream within a dream.

I first watched Picnic at Hanging Rock qutie some time ago and I remember finding it so haunting and eerie. Peter Weir's work on this film is fantastic, the film's soundtrack is entrancing and edgy, due to the sound of the pan-pipes. This film seemed really strange to me when I first watched it, and I didn't understand it at all. It is definitely a confusing film, but it is full of symbolism I feel. The mystery of the disappearance of the girls and where they could have vanished to was never resolved and leaves the viewer with many unanswered questions. Nevertheless, it is still a great film, I especially love the time period and the fact that it is Australian. If you haven't seen it, I would recommend checking it out. :)

I started and finished another illustration yesterday entitled Seashell (Lady of the Lake). The image I used as a reference for the mermaid was a screencap from a Russian version of the Little Mermaid tale, called Rusalochka.

I bought a pretty ruby coloured dress online from Freez again, it is by Lola vs Harper and it looks so pretty, I can't wait to try it on. :)
