Auras

Another Saturday, another week gone by. Next week will be Week 5 of my semester, I honestly can't quite get my head around that fact. It seems like I've only just started by really I've been working away for weeks now! I feel I have a better grip on my time management this year though, after last years debacles which I do not want to return to! But procrastination still gets the better of me sometimes!

This week I have been designing ideas for a poster that focuses on the topic of peace. Since this is also a poster that is to be designed with the intention of being exhibited by the client as a celebration of their 25 years in operation, I'e decided to take the approach that focuses on their legacy and input into the community by creating an illustration of their key figure - Graham F. Smith. The little sketch I've done as a starting point is below.

Here's my week:

1. Beginning a sketch of a beautiful photo of a model whose name I do not know, but she has the loveliest freckles ever!
2. Progress + milky cups of tea, a typical afternoon of yours truly.
3. Finally decided to get my mitts on this little book with some birthday money I had stashed. I think it doesn't even need introducing, the cover is already so iconic I think! Anyways, I've had a brief flick through it and so far I am excited to read it.

For my inspiration this week, I've really been digging simple palettes of black and white with a dash of bright or neon colour thrown into the mix. I used to love constant colour, but right now I've just been looking at more tailored and simple approaches to my personal style. I'm still obsessed with photographic prints, mirror prints and florals, don't think i'm ever going to get over them - they are the only statement item you'll need when you're wearing them. Green is also not a colour I'm greatly fond of, but recently I've been loving a nice palette of fresh green hues to get me dreaming of tropical rainforests and exploring jungles.

Flux and Flow

Well it's university time again, and that means less posting! I want to try and keep up with it more this year though and continue to upload a post a week, even if it is just something really small or a quick update, it is better than nothing!

For the past two weeks I have been settling back into my city lifestyle after coming back from my holidays in the outback. Now that I've finally unpacked and gotten ready for my final year at uni, I have been striving to keep my regular plans in place, in regards to diet, exercise and study. I hope that I can continue to keep up my routines so that I can be as organised as possible, but we all say that at the beginning of a New Year, only to start to fall into bad habits as the year pans out! I'm going to try my very best not to get into my procrastinating habits though!

14. I'm going to miss all the Summer berries when they're not in season anymore - strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are my favourite things.
15. Working on a Kate Moss illustration - Moss is boss.

Pearls of Wisdom

I am incredibly sorry for this extensive delay in regards to updates on my blog, but university is so demanding I barely find time to properly feed myself and sleep!

For this post I will be focussed on the colour I am most inspired by at this moment and that is white. Simple bright white or pearlescent shades reflect pristineness and purity, untainted by other elements and are just existent singularly. It is the simplicity of the shade that draws me in, like the blank sheet of white paper that I face before beginning a new illustration or design, it is the stepping stone to something more, the foundation which is built upon by layers of various mediums; the empty canvas with so much potential. I feel that paper is largely unappreciated and taken for granted and in it's most simplest form, it can be the starting point for something wonderful to be created. I particularly note this in the paper art that I have observed, as well as these paper eyelashes by Paperself. I just adore how beautiful the shade white can be, it is so lovely and clean and complacent. Sometimes the most simplest of things can be the most beautiful.

I hope to be able to blog again later this week, as I have one week off before I go into my packaging design intensive course (pray for my soul, I'm not sure I'll be able to make it as I am only just recovering from finishing a harrowing 1st semester!) But at least I will be getting it out of the way quickly (it is a 3 week course) and it will hopefully make my final semester easier to deal with, then this degree will all be finished! It is so scary to think about, these years have flow by so quickly! But I am still considering coming back for a masters/honours or a specialisation diploma. We shall see what happens!

Epiphany

I have been busy creating and drawing after going a while without creating anything! I have almost finished one of my works which has been in progress for almost a month now (this is what holidays do to me - make me lazy!). I am quite happy with it overall, but once it is complete I shall be more enthused.

As you can see the fox still has quite a bit of detailing to go, but once I've mapped out the appropriate areas to work on, it is much easier to accomplish.

This is also an illustration that I completed yesterday for a university publication - I drew it with felt tip markers and then edited it in photoshop; it is entitled "Daydreaming". I really love working with markers, as you can draw such nice bold thin strokes as well as thicker strokes, to give an image more depth.

Oh, I also ordered the most beautiful dress yesterday, it is such a nice soft colour and print, with lovely billowing sleeves - I just love anything with interesting textures and shapes.

I am currently reading "Geisha" by Liz Dalby, it is quite interesting to see how different Japanese culture is from Australian, it almost seems like an entirely different realm from mine, but I suppose every different country we visit is like stepping through a portal into an entirely separate world.

State of Love

Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a merry Christmas and a happy New Years Eve! I'm very sorry for not updating my blog in what seems like forever, but I'll promise to try and blog once every week just to stay updated.

I spent my new years and Christmas at home with my family, which was good as I only come home from uni once a year, so it's good to spend some time at my home and sleeping in my old bedroom. I have been working on a drawing since I have come back home, but I have stopped because I find so many other things to do and completely forget all about it! But I will try my best to finish it, maybe by the end of this week. The weather has been so awfully hot this entire week, so I haven't felt like doing much apart from laying motionless by the air con all day, but somehow I have managed to build up the strength to keep up my exercise regime.

One film I am really excited to see this year the The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. I also love Baz Lurhmann's work, especially the Romeo + Juliet film which is one of my favourite movies ever. I hope it will be really good; I don't understand why people say how Leo has become "ugly" with age and he was so much more attractive during the 90's. Given he was very attractive then, I think he is still darn good looking now!
